The Skills Certificate has been designed for employees undergoing training or in any area of work. It aims to reflect the international nature of the knowledge, skills and activities required for different countries or cultures.

The award provides a broad introduction to the theory and practical side of Health and Safety for any student in a work environment.

Each module commences with a section on practical competences which indicates the practical skills students must have.

There are knowledge statements attached to each module – this knowledge is closely linked to the practical competences of each module.

Modules within the award

01 – Understanding Health and Safety

This module introduces students to:

• Safe working within their own area of work and

• The recognition of risks and hazards

02 – Using Safe Working Practices

This module comprises of:

• Safe working within their own area of work and

• Taking action to prevent and report risks and hazards

03 – Developing Health and Safety procedures

This module comprises of:

• Employee’s responsibility for keeping Health and Safety procedures under review and

• Employer ’s responsibility for keeping Health and Safety procedures under review

• The role of external organisations in Health and Safety

The Certificate award is a practical based assessed qualification and it is recommended that there are 60 guided learning hours
